Founded in 1872 by the carpenter Fritz Hansen as a carpentry workshop, today the Republic of Fritz Hansen is known all over the world. Tradition and Innovation as well as form and functionality take centre stage.
The Republic of Fritz Hansen works with internationally selected designers and architects. Thanks to creative partnerships with visionaries such as Arne Jacobsen, Hans J. Wegner and Poul Kjærholm, Fritz Hansen has developed a very special cooperative culture. This culture is characterised by the love of good craftsmanship and the desire to use industrial production methods for design as best as possible. To this day, the design by Republic of Fritz Hansen is characterised by its own independent identity - the art of furniture making that exhibits contemporary sense of form and long-lasting originality.
The philosophy which stands behind the design is summarised by Fritz Hansen as: "Continuously seek the obvious" - the obvious has to be constantly questioned and explored. This creates lasting products of the highest quality with pure, clear yet sophisticated shapes.
One of the most ingenious designers with whom Fritz Hansen has cooperated with was Arne Jacobsen (1902 - 1971). The perfectionist and modernist Jacobsen skilfully combined in his designs functional objectivity with the organic shapes of nature. In a partnership with Fritz Hansen, he launched a series of trendsetting, technically revolutionary and functional furniture classics which became design classics. The design icons of series 7, the AntTM, the SwanTM and the EggTM are e.g. results of this unique cooperation between architect and manufacturer.
New creations also demonstrate the innovative power of the brand: The success of the models FAVNTM and RoTM by Spanish top designer Jamie Hayón or the series minusculeTM by Cecilie Manz are testimony to their flair for design and materials.
